Favoritism

Book: James
Chapter: 2
Verse: 1
Phrase: Don't show Favoritism
Word: Favoritism
Thought:
Too often I show favoritism to total strangers based on my presuppositions. I cannot allow myself to judge a book by its cover and this is vitally important as a believer. If I allow myself any prejudice then I have already hampered my ability to share the gospel. Favoritism was absent from the cross and it should be absent from the Christian.

Polluted

Book: James
Chapter: 1
Verse: 27
Phrase: "Keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
Word: Polluted
Thought: Most of the time we think of the world being polluted by us. Here we are challenged to keep the pollution from the world from us. Pollution does not usually happen all at once like the Valdeze, but seeps in or out over time. A little litter every day builds up along the road over time. Pollutants can enter myself through my eyes, my ears, & my mouth. I can be polluted anywhere at any time. Today I will focus on the word "polluted" and identify what are pollutants and to keep myself from being polluted by the world.

Worthless

Book: James
Chapter: 1
Verse: 26
Statement: "If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight reign on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless."
Word: Worthless
Thought: Today's daily thought is how worthless our religion can become if we fail to keep a control of our words. No matter how much we say for God out of one side of our mouth, it can all be erased by one sharp word out of the other. Today, I pray that my religion will not be worthless.

Do

Book: James
Chapter: 1
Verse: 22
Statement: Do what it says
Word: Do
Thought: Today's daily thought is "do what it says" Too often we stop short of the do. We get the know, but fail at the do. Today I hope to not just seek God's direction and will but do what it says.

Unstable

Book: James
Chapter: 1
Verse: 7
Statement: a double minded man is unstable in all he does
Word: Unstable
Thought: Sometimes I find myself to be a bit unstable in the daily. When that happens I have to ask myself if I am wavering between following God and serving my own flesh. If I am having those instabilities it can usually be resolved by determining which one is what God wants and which one is me. Then I must follow after God.

Pure

Book: James
Chapter: 1
Verse: 2
Statement: Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds.
Word: Pure
Thought: It is one thing to look on the bright side, it is another to consider it joy, but what is this about "pure" joy. Trials are not something we normally enjoy, but knowing that God uses trials in our lives to make us more like him, we can someday arrive at the point where we consider our trials "pure" joy.

Generously

Book: James
Chapter: 1
Verse: 5
Statement: If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault
Word: Generously
Thought: God is generous. When we have need of answers, and wisdom, like It seems we often do. God does not only give us those answers, but he is generous. I love to go to a restaurant that has generous portions, I love to visit homes of generous people. There is something to be said for abundance. Generous people make it obvious that there is plenty to go around. Our God is a generous God, so don't hesitate to ask.

Own

Book: James
Chapter: 1
Verse: 14
Statement: Everyone is tempted when, by his own evil desires, he is dragged away and enticed.
Word: Own
Thought: Own it. Today, I must own my temptations. I cannot blame them on Satan, I cannot blame them on others, or culture, or accident, or even God. My temptations are mine. They are of my own making and a result of my own evil desires. I did not borrow them, I did not merely accept them as something handed to me. They are mine, I own them. And... since I own them, I can do with them whatever I please. God help me to dispose of these evil desires today.
